The Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Foundation… 31 Years of Giving
Today, on September 5th, the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Works celebrates the International Day of Charity. Over the past 31 years, the foundation has successfully institutionalized its activities, transforming them into a culture and a firmly established practice in all its current and future projects. Since its inception in 1992, the foundation has provided assistance to more than 170 countries worldwide.
In a statement carried by the WAM news agency, the foundation affirmed that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, laid the foundation for a sustainable approach to charity and humanitarian work, extending its benefits to continents around the world. It explained that it leverages its material and human resources to sustainably expand the umbrella of its beneficiaries.
The foundation noted that its assistance focuses on several sectors, including health, education, the establishment of cultural and humanitarian centers, scientific research, schools, general and higher education institutions, public libraries, as well as support for those affected by disasters, crises, and wars around the world.
The foundation highlighted some of its activities in Chad and Sudan, where it operates as part of the UAE humanitarian team in Amdjarass, Chad. This team includes the Foreign Aid Coordination Office in Chad, the UAE Red Crescent Authority, and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works. Together, they extend assistance to Sudanese refugees and the local community by intensifying their charitable and humanitarian efforts and conducting field visits.
In collaboration with the UAE humanitarian team in Chad, the foundation is engaged in distributing food parcels to the needy, assessing the needs of schools before rehabilitation, and meeting with Chadian officials in Amdjarass to provide basic requirements to the highest standards and criteria.
Additionally, the foundation, in coordination with the relevant authorities, will equip classrooms with modern supplies and furnishings, as well as school facilities. Field visits to schools will continue to monitor progress until full maintenance is completed.
The foundation has also contributed to establishing a field hospital in Chad to support Sudanese refugees, as part of the UAE’s relief and medical support for Sudanese refugees and to assist Chad’s efforts in responding to the challenges posed by the influx of a large number of Sudanese refugees due to the situation in their country.
In Sudan, the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Works seeks to provide further support to the Sudanese people. This includes providing food baskets, relief tents, solar-powered lighting, medical supplies, and other needs in coordination with relevant authorities, and it aims to provide clean water by drilling wells in villages and remote areas based on needs identified by the field team.
The foundation is working to accomplish several significant charitable programs, both within and outside the UAE. These programs include providing school bags and supplies to underprivileged students in various countries around the world, distributing computers to students from disadvantaged families within the UAE in collaboration with relevant government authorities, the “Zayed Umrah” program for laborers and new Muslims, supporting programs that serve inmates in the country’s correctional institutions, and sponsoring the Zayed Charity Race.
The foundation provides educational, healthcare, and other assistance to a number of low-income individuals, having extended aid to more than 4,000 beneficiaries from its programs in 2022, totaling more than AED 11 million. Since the beginning of 2023, the foundation has provided assistance to more than 2,000 families.
